SSCU Trench Wars

Help us fix the ongoing lag issues

You have probably noticed that the zone has been suffering from severe lag recently. Many players find themselves unable to play due to lag limits and the TW Bots are delayed with their responses to commands.

This all came to an annoying climax over the weekend when SSCU Trench Wars, Extreme Games and Chaos were taken offline by a server reboot performed by the hosting provider during an investigation into the problem.

After speaking with support we have been asked to collect as many traceroutes as we can in order to isolate the exact cause of the issue as they believe that the latency is coming from an external source.

A traceroute shows us the path taken between the client and server, including ping and packet loss at each step of the way. This is vital information when diagnosing network issues involving latency.

Take a look at this forum thread for more information.

We need your help in this effort. Please follow the instructions below:

WINDOWS USERS (Simple)

The Continuum traceroute function is not the best but it is better than nothing. If you're tech savvy you could try the Advanced method that gives us more accurate info.

  1. On the Continuum Main Menu, make sure you have selected SSCU Trench Wars. Click TRACE

  2. Wait 5 (or more) minutes, or until you have at least 30-50 cycles completed. (See Cycles in bottom left corner)

  3. Click Export... and save to a text file. On your desktop is a good location, for easy reference.

  4. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR REPORT

  5. WINDOW USERS (Advanced)

    1. If you're tech-savvy, generate a report from either WinMTR (GUI) or the following mtr command:
      mtr -rwc 50 -i 1.0 -rw 66.36.247.83

    2. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR REPORT

    MAC USERS (Simple)

Running Continuum's trace function through the standalone Mac client doesn't provide any output. Here are the steps:

    1. Open Network Utility
    2. On the Traceroute tab, enter 66.36.247.83 and click Trace
    3. Once the trace has finished and you have some output, select it and paste it into TextEdit. Save the file.
    4. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR REPORT

    MAC USERS (Advanced)

    1. You can install mtr and use the following command:
      mtr -rwc 50 -i 1.0 -rw 66.36.247.83

    2. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR REPORT

Over the next few days we will collect the submissions and provide them to our host. This will allow them to pinpoint the exact source of the issue and report it to the affected NOC.

The more reports we receive, the sooner the lag will be corrected. Please take the time to submit your traceroute.

Thanks for your help. We will keep you posted as things move forward.
